Privacy and Light: Do You Have to Choose Between Them When Installing New Windows

When you get new windows and love the light they filter, you might wonder – is there a way to enjoy all this light without allowing prying eyes to look inside our home? The answer is yes, you can. Continue reading for advice on how to get both privacy and light. If you have questions, or you want to request a free in-home estimate, contact Progressive Insulation & Windows at (800) 500-6200.

Start with a Plan for the Most Private Rooms

Some rooms are more private than others, and as a result, they require more privacy than others do. For example, you likely want full privacy in your bathroom and bedroom. Start with those windows to get the privacy you need. If you have windows already installed, consider adding a frost to the glass that allows light in but does not allow anyone outside to see what is happening inside.

If you have not yet had a window installed, consider having it installed high above your tower and tub. Once again, this allows you to get the light you need but does not allow others to see in. In fact, a skylight can be a great choice for this need.

Consider the Many Window Covering Options

In some rooms, you might want total privacy at times and wide-open windows at other times. The answer to this dilemma is to choose window coverings that can give you choices. For example, window shades that can go up or down are a good choice or honeycomb shades that can be opened or closed. You can decide if you want window coverings to match throughout the home or to be unique within the décor of each room.

Maximizing Privacy and Light

It might be that you have a room in which you will want natural light all time but will also want natural light all the time. For these rooms, café shutters or blinds can work. They go up the bottom half of the window to prevent anyone from seeing inside, but the top half is left open to allow light in. This can be the total package of both light and privacy.
