When it comes time to have your new windows installed, there are a few things you can do to prepare your home for the process. While every job is a little different, and you can count on Progressive Insulation & Windows letting you know if there are any special preparations you can do, the following tips are a general list of ways you can get your home ready for a smooth installation process.
Take down pictures and other wall hangings in neighboring rooms
You may think to take down pictures, mirrors, etc. from the room in which you’re having windows installed, but homeowners often don’t think about the rooms around them. Vibrations from construction could shake the walls and there is the potential for the walls in adjacent areas to lose pictures or mirrors. Take down the pictures in any room close to the rooms in which you’re having windows installed to be extra careful.
Think carefully about how involved you want to be in the design process
Some homeowners decide to be involved in every step of the design process. Others want their window installation contractors to tell them what the options are and then they’ll make a choice. You will need to make a decision about your involvement level. At Progressive Insulation & Windows, we can handle it all for you or run each decision by you. It’s your project and you call the shots.
Get valuables and necessities out of the rooms where work is being done
Before your windows are installed, walk through the rooms where work is being done and move anything that’s either valuable or that you’ll need easy access to. We are very familiar with and comfortable working around your furnishings and valuables but we find that homeowners often have more peace of mind if they’ve removed anything they may worry about being damaged.
Make sure your children and pets are out of the way
If you have pets or children, do your best to keep them as isolated as you can from the area that’s actively being worked on. Once again, our contractors are used to working with people around, but distractions can slow down the job and can even be dangerous for your kids or pets. After all, you don’t want your kids playing in a room where people are walking through with large panes of glass.
Ensure the window is accessible both inside and out
The night before your windows are to be installed, take down any window treatments. Then go outside and make sure that you don’t have plants or bushes that may need to be trimmed. Generally speaking, you’ll need about two feet of space in front of your window. If you get this ready in advance, the installation process will be quicker and smoother.
