Winter is Coming: 5 Places You May Need Additional Insulation

Like it or not, winter is getting closer by the day. This makes it the perfect time to consider your home’s heating system and how you can help it work more efficiently. At Progressive Insulation & Windows we strive to help our clients achieve maximum energy efficiency in their homes. One of the best ways to ensure that your home is as energy efficiently as possible is to install the appropriate insulation.

Keep reading to find out about five places your home may need additional insulation. If you are ready for a free quote, or to learn more about your options, then we invite you to contact us at (800) 500-6200 at your earliest convenience.

  1. Insulate your attic
  2. If you do not know when your attic was last insulated, or it has been more than a few years, then you should take this opportunity to check out how it is holding up. Go to your attic and look for cracks and gaps where the blown in insulation may not have settled properly or where it may have otherwise become less effective. Keeping your attic properly insulated helps keep heat out of your attic, which keeps it where it belongs – in your home.

  3. Insulate your garage
  4. If your garage is attached to your home then it should be properly insulated. If it is not, then heat can easily flow out of your home through your garage. This can cost you big in increased utilities. Pay special attention to the wall your garage shares with your home. Consider garage door as well. It is essentially a large, exterior wall that has a long list of joints that allow air to flow in.

  5. Insulate interior walls
  6. Of course, your exterior walls are likely already insulated but that does not mean that the insulation is sufficient. The most important part of insulating your wall is making sure that there is a continuous fit and that there are no gaps. For example, if you have a layer of batted insulation, it is hard to get it seamless due to pipes, cords, windows, etc. There are likely resulting gaps in the wall that can be properly sealed and insulated.

  7. Insulate crawlspaces in your home
  8. Many homeowners never give their crawlspaces a second though, as they are not seen every day. However, these spaces, when not insulated, can result in a lot of heat loss. When you contact Progressive Insulation & Windows and request an assessment, your crawlspaces will be checked.

  9. Replace worn or damaged insulation
  10. There are many things that can damage insulation, from pets to mold and moisture. This is especially true of older insulation products. We recommend having your insulation checked before winter comes. This allows you to get any issues taken care of in time to significantly lower your utility bills. If you are in need of this type of check, please contact Progressive Insulation & Windows at (800) 500-6200 right away.
