Get it and read it completely before inviting any sales rep into your home to do an estimate. It gives you a lot of inside information that you must know in order to make the very best decision for your family, in making this major investment in your home. On the back is a complete checklist for you to use to verify what each company actually offers.
2. Get 2 estimates before calling Progressive
It's important for you to be able to compare one company with another, so getting at least 3 estimates is a must, one from Progressive and two others. We want you to get the other two first, so that you will be able to readily see how Progressive stacks up against our competition.
- Fill out the checklist from your Window Buyer's Guide on each company that gives you an estimate, without telling them where you got this priceless information.
- Verify who their installation crews are - insist on it. Some companies will tell you they are employees of the company, when in fact they are sub-contractors. Ask the sales reps who do the estimates if the installers are W-2 employees. If they are not, they are sub-contractors.
- Insist on a formal estimate and sample contract. There are too many contractors who write the estimate on the back of their business card, or just quickly scrawl it out on a blank sheet of paper to leave with you. When this much money is involved, make sure it's all properly spelled out. Remember:
If the total cost of the project exceeds $500,
by law the contract MUST be in writing.
